Welcome to the final Slice & Stitch Challenge that we teamed up with Aurifil to bring you during 2019! One OLFA Ambassador and one Aurifil Artisan will receive the same products and create a project or tips / tutorial for you! This month Cheryl Brickey from Meadow Mist Designs and Yvonne Fuchs from Quilting Jetgirl were both given 5″ Precision Smooth Edge Scissors (SCS-4) and Aurifil’s Cotton 12 weight thread.
Hello, this is Yvonne from Quilting Jetgirl, and I am a modern quilter who loves to explore color theory and strong geometric patterns. I don’t make a project without OLFA tools or Aurifil thread, and today I am sharing about my Slice and Stitch challenge contribution, a fun reverse appliqué and hand quilted pillow.
The OLFA 5″ scissors and Aurifil 12wt thread that were supplied for this month’s challenge are perfect for creating projects on the go. In fact, I started my project while my husband and I were on a long vacation this summer. We were camping in Elk Bay, Vancouver Island, when I made my fabric selections and started sewing.
Not only are OLFA’s 5″ scissors are the perfect traveling companion (they meet current TSA guidelines), they are excellent for the fine detail work it takes to prepare fabric for hand appliqué sewing.
And when I think of Aurifil 12wt thread, I think about hand quilting and the texture that can be created!
